Not sure what you mean. It has internet play and local play

In the last portable MK game MK DS it had in single player:

Grand Prix
Time trial
VS
Battle
Mission

Not everyone has a good wifi connection and friends to play with all the time and no one likes to redo the GP over and over just to play on a track of your choice which was why VS you could go for 1 race and any track of your choice.

MK7 removed VS and forced you to go online if you want to play like that.

Its not much different to Mario Kart wii except it doesnt have bikes so seems a bit slower. The new tracks seem a bit long and pointless but Im sure there will be some you like, if not the retro.

Overall its a good game but one thing I havent been able to find is time trial leaderboards. I will keep hunting.

nope, you can either race worldwide or from your friends list
