Next Nintendo Handheld to Have Wii-like Graphics?

This is a wild rumor, but the word on the street is that NVIDIA has won a contract with Nintendo for an upcoming handheld game console. Some describe it as the "successor of the DS/DSi". There is speculation that the new device would be available or at least shown in 2010. If this is true, we wonder if Nintendo will opt for the current Tegra that is in the Zune HD, for cost reasons, or will they choose the next-generation Tegra?

Basically the next handheld looks set to have Wii level graphics if this is correct.

But what would be different? Still 2 screen? What would it be called?

Personally I think there'd be one screen, which is a touch screen more GBA style. I also don't think they'd every go back to the Gameboy brand, especially with how many girls bought the DS!

Screw the DSi then if Nintendo is already planning another new portable console. I would like to know if these Wii-like graphics would affect any future Pokemon games.

I wouldn't be taking these rumors too seriously yet. Will be interesting to see if anything comes out of this though. Nintendo must be due for a whole new handheld soon aren't they?

Not really. If this is a whole new handheld we wont see it on shelfs until at least 2011.

Well developing a new console doesn't happen over night. They have most likely been thinking about for years. They need to have it ready for when they see sales start to drop off.

The DS is what 5 years old? When it get's to 7-8 you'd expect the new console to be here, as it will be really dated (kinda was dated tech when it was released).

I think it was fairly obvious that Nintendo would have been planning, but if they have contracted NVIDIA that would suggest they have decided which way to go, and are working on a prototype.

That would be pretty cool. But I think it would compromise the portability a bit.

I thought the DS is fine without any joysticks. There's not many games that have you exploring a lot like some games on the PSP.

Really? Most RPGs and adventure games etc. require "exploring" and there are definitely a lot of those on the DS.

Nah, they haven't. They've come close to getting on par with some Wii games, but none have got that far, the DS just doesn't have the power to do so. The PSP on the other hand does, Infact I think it exceeds the Wii when It comes to graphical capability's.
