Hey guys, thought I'd get a thread started for all Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate enthusiasts to share their tips and tricks or newbies and veterans alike. MH3U is a massive game with incredible depth, so I'm sure there's some stuff many players know or have figured out that others - n00bs like me included (I played Tri back in the day but have never been great with the series) who would love to know. :)

Your upper instructer in the tavern gives you 1z when you reach HR3.

Koji Tip#1 Bring your own Potions (bought or created from herb+blue mushroom) [Rage]

Koji Tip#2 Bring MEGA Potions (created from honey+potion) [Rage]

Koji Tip#3 Bring BOTH Potions [Rage]

Koji Tip#4 REMEMBER TO USE POTIONS TO KEEP TOPPED UP [Rage]

Koji Tip#5 Don't trust Koji he's shady [Shifty]

But seriously if you want advice for something more specific I'll try to halp, ain't nobody got time to make a list.

Ajajaja.
tip#1 like koji had said above allways have potions and mega potions

tip#2 as well as potion you should AWAYS have theses in your pouch whetstones, antidote, well-done steak and mega dash juice
- Read the manual. You know, the book that comes with the game? Yeah. Read it.
- Carving while crouched decreases carving times
- You can skip movies you’ve already seen with the + button.
- The armour skill “Status Attack Down” will make you need to throw more traqs than usual to capture a monster.
- Picking up Wyvern Eggs will make Rathian and Rathalos come to the area where said egg is.
- Rolling off a small ledge like the ones in Tundra Area 6 will cancel landing lag.
- Never stay in front of Rathalos. If you do, you will die.
- Breaking certain parts of a monster can disable it. For example, breaking Barioth’s wings can make it fall over on occasion. Cutting tails will also reduce the monsters range.
- You can only lay one trap at a time. If you lay a trap and the monster walks out of the room, you won’t be able to lay another trap until it disappears.
- To finish your urgent online quests, you must be the one who starts the quest.
- Never sell monster materials. You never know when you’ll need those Great Jaggi hides you just sold.
- Sonic Bombs affect monsters that can dig, such as; Gobul, Diablos and Delex, Agnaktor, and Uragaan (Surprisingly they don’t work on Barroth). If they’re not in rage mode, they will pop back up and flail around for a short while.
- Sonic Bombs affect certain other monsters in different ways. Royal Ludroth and Lagiacrus are staggered when they’re used underwater and they will disrupt Qurupeco’s songs and calls.
- The bowgun ammo Crag shots act like Sonic Bombs
- Meat will turn different colours while you’re barbequing it. Each colour represents Rare, Well-done and Burnt respectively.
- Use skills that correspond with what weapon you are using. No point using that Auto-guard charm on a Switch Axe.
- Deviljho’s saliva lowers your defence.
- Dung Bomb’s free players who are pinned.
- Dung Bombs also make monsters leave the area. Don’t hit it until it does, however, or unless it’s clear it isn’t leaving.
- Gobul can be fished out with frogs.
- Jhen’s back can be mined. It yields Pelagicite Ore and Mohran materials.
- Barioth and Diablos fly for a short period of time after escaping a Pitfall Trap. They can be Flash Bombed immediately for great effect.
- You can “duplicate” certain items by starting a Harvest Tour quest, giving said items to a friend, and abandoning the quest. Once your friend comes back, he will have your items and you would have kept yours.
- Some large monsters won’t notice you if you’re crouching.
- Qurupeco’s songs can be interrupted and you and your teammates will receive the benefits.
- Gigginox can be poisoned.
- Keeping your health as close to full as possible will prevent you from carting if a monster manages to combo you. (Assuming you have enough defence, of course)
- Barroth’s head crest can be broken and carved if you keep hitting it with impact damage. Cut, shot and explosive damage will not work.
- Traqs cause Traq status. If you throw two traqs before the monster walks into the trap, it'll be captured immediately.
- Don’t cook steak in front of Barioth.
- Those friggen annoying cats will always steal Felvine first if you have it in your inventory.
- There are secret shortcuts in the camp on the Deserted Island, Flooded Forest and Sandy Plains.
- All parts of a monster have a certain stagger limit. Once this limit is reached, the monster will “stagger”. Staggering often has a special effect, for example, staggering a leg of a monster will cause it to fall over.
- Use Bounce Bombs to deal damage (and hopefully stagger) a monster when it is flying away.
- Bounce Bombs aren't really worth using since they deal very little damage.

- Bomb, Ballistae, Cannon, Crag and Clust base damage:

DISCLAIMER: These are TRI numbers, but it's likely Capcom have kept them the same.

Barrel Bomb S: 20
Bounce Bomb: 20
Crag Shot Lvl 1: 20 (+ some fire damage, impact damage and KO/Exhaust damage)
Barrel Bomb S+: 30
Bounce Bomb+: 30
Crag Shot Lvl 2: 30 (+ some fire damage, impact damage and KO/Exhaust damage)
Ballista S: 30 per spear. Total of 60 if both hit.
Crag Shot Lvl 3: 40 (+ some fire damage, impact damage and KO/Exhaust damage)
Barrel Bomb L: 80
Clust Shot Lvl 1-3: 100 (+ some impact damage)
Cannon Ammo: 120
Barrel Bomb L+: 150
EZ Barrel Bomb L: 150
Anti Dragon Bomb: 400

Note:
The armor skill Bombardier increases bomb damage by 50% and makes bomb combinations 100%
The Felyne Bombardier skill increases Crag shot damage by 1.50x and increases Ballista and Cannon damage by 10%
The sleeping x2 modifier applies to all bombs (Except Anti-Dragon of course). So a LBB+ boosted by Bombardier with the 2x sleeping modifier will do 450 damage.

- Armour Shots Lvl 1 and 2 grant the armour skill Windproof (Lo) and (Hi) respectively and boost your teammates defence for a short period of time.
- The Ballista Binder and Hunting Gong are used to stop Jhenny Moron from attacking the Dragonship.
- The farm is a great way to make money. Farming Nulberries and selling them should be sufficient for anyone in low rank.
- If time runs out on your quest reward screen, you will lose your rewards.
- Psychoserum marks the monster on your map for a short period of time.
- You can buy certain things like Thunderbugs from Granny Go-To.
- You can skip through unnecessary NPC dialogue with the “b” button.
- On the weapon icon next to other players names, it will flash and show an eye repeatedly when that player is in a room with a large monster.
- Don't run behind Gunners to heal or sharpen weapons. They are not your personal shield.
- Alatreon can get stuck in some parts of the environment when he uses his dragon charge.
- There is a special area in the Tundra which you can get to when doing High Jho.
- Felvine Bombs used on monsters stops cats from throwing bombs at you/stealing your potions and whetstones. You can use Felvine Bombs on the cats too, but this will only make them high. (srs)

Most of the information is still relevant for 3U, but I've modified or deleted tips that aren't relevant at all.
Ain't nobody got time to read that, Kuro :E
They asked for tips, they got tips.

Don't get me wrong, they're good tips, but when I started reading it I thought, "Hang on, I don't play Monster Hunter, why the **** am I reading this? Cryingface.jpg" then I commented with that (love)
