Well if they wanted a war, I think they've got one. Didn't Anon fight back or something?
I won't notice it being gone, but I am very concerned about what this means for the future of the Internet. :E

It's no coincidence that it's come just after the internet generally went on strike to protest a bunch of politicians trying to change laws that will cripple the Internet as we know it simply because they don't understand it.

America fights back by trying to show that they will fight piracy, poorly at that, using the FBI to take down a site that wasn't doing all that much wrong. It was the users more than the owners.

The solution to end piracy is simple. Movie, TV and Music studios need to get with the times. Release something that allows you to subscribe (with varying levels) at a reason price to access unlimited (new release) movies, TV shows or whatever. It needs to be released in all Western regions at the same time at the same, reasonable, price.

None of that will ever happen. So, it's hard to say there's no good reason for piracy. How about "TV show won't ever be released here".

The entertainment industry has let itself fall before in search of excessive profit and this is what happens. Get with the times or fall behind.

Oh thanks, I see what you mean now
Getting the FBI to shut down a file sharing site is just lulzworthy.

They even had 4 people arrested in NEW ZEALAND. Good to know where their priorities are set.

Terrorists and file sharing is all America cares about.

The fact that they're boarding on becoming a third world country with increasing homelessness is not high on the agenda :P

That's surprisingly accurate as well :P

"Protecting America from all the evil middle eastern people" = 80% of the population being happy.

Using FBI intelligence on hunting down piracy= 100% of the corporations happy.
what lovely chaps

Oh, Hey guys. Ya'll talking about little ol' me? :)
Lots of ignorance in here :P

America isn't protecting the people against the "evil middle east". They're fighting a very common threat to the West, extremist groups that compromise freedom of expression.

The conflict here is that the US government has an obligation to corporations, which is understandable, but there is clearly not enough education as to what the internet actually IS to make this bill sustainable. It's not really American fighting this. It's the corporations, and the government has some obligation to those corporations. A little open-mindedness doesn't go astray :P It's a pretty big double-edged sword. If you own a business, you'd want your license protected. Unfortunately, the people with power just clearly don't understand the internet.

America's GDP is too big and economy too advanced to be anywhere near third-world. At the end of the day I can still go the Silicon Valley with an idea and get a check for a $1 million without even trying. You can't do that anywhere else.

But using the FBI for something like piracy? I think we can all agree that those resources could be used on something that isn't as lacklustre as that.
