[MMGN] How should we score reviews?

Hey guys,

We would like to know how we should rate games in the future.

Indie and small games, like those on XBLA, will be rated out of 5 stars.

However, we want your help to determine big releases. We currently use a 100 point decimal system to give a score out of 10. This is so 2003 and we need to update!

We propose two alternatives:

10 point system
With a 10 point system you will get a score from 0 to 10 with no decimal, so scores of 7, 8, 9 etc and 5 will be average as it should be, not absolutely terrible as tends to happen on the 100 point scale. This means a 9.5 and a 9.7 game will both get a 10/10 in the future.

20 point system
Option two is to have a 20 point system. It is the same as above, but allows for .5 so we can have 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10 etc, but no other decimal places.

Finally we could be retro and keep the current system.

Current game review scores ridiculous. As a reader/consumer what difference is there for me between a 8.4 and 8.5. Good to see you guys aknowledging that. I'd much rather see a star rating system for all games.

As long as it doesn't suffer from 7-10 syndrome.
Since there's no such thing as a perfect game, I'd rather see the final score represent the 'must buy' factor. Ranking games isn't very useful.

I reckon the 20 system is good. Decimal points are so irrational! :P

I'd like the change from the big points out of 100. Like 80 is better than 8 (or 16 out of 20).

Keep the hundred point system for reader reference, but don't combine them to give the final score. Instead, the final score should be given at your discretion like Rashy/Sidgit said.

and as i said on the poll, the more specific the better. I see no issue at all with the 100 point system atm

I like the PCPP review scheme where 5 is dead average and above 5 is the scale of how good it is, below 5 is the scale of how shit it is.

yeah that would be odd :P but nah, it's just through to 10, but the .5 increments give another 10 scores for a total of 20.
