Modern Warfare 4... Will it happen?

So I was just thinking, with Black Ops 2 coming out in a few months, we'll soon start to hear about the next game in the modern warfare franchise. Besides the obvious issue of the modern warfare games being overdone and people getting bored of the same rehashed game, I don't think Activision can go with the name Modern Warfare 4, because it will be confused too much with the first game in the series, CoD 4.

So will they leave MW at a trilogy and start up a new franchise? Or just keep the same theme and somehow find a name workaround to avoid the potential confusion with CoD 4? What other options might they have?

Black Ops was a grind. X_X

But when i play CoD soons i hit max i HAVE to prestige. I can't stand staying, Because once i'm at max then it's just wasted XP that i could use to rank again.

Plus the extra classes are handy as hell

I'm not sure if everyone is completely understanding my OP... Obviously there will be another CoD released in Nov next year, that much we all know for sure. This is Activision we're talking about. [Shifty]

But just like Treyarch realised the series needed some serious change, I think infinity ward will know they need to change things up. Cod4's plot was pretty epic, MW2 pushed it further and MW3 took it all the way with world war 3. Where can they take the story from there? They've already pushed the boundaries of modern warfare as far as they can go. And with the name issue compounding the problem, I think it's quite possible they will end the MW franchise there and start up something fresh.

i actually wouldnt mind that. If there is any talent left in Infinity Ward, Id live a good WW2 shooter. So many MW games now that for once a WW2 shooter would be a change!

They would need to do it well though and i doubt they have the maturity. Treyarch sure as shit don't if W@W is anything to go by.

But not the generic type. They should focus on other parts. And have atleast 2-3 different campaign (WaW had the US and Russians)

Hmm, I might buy it just to see the Neversoft opening. Poor eyeball.

Nah, who am I kidding. :P I won't.

IMO, Call of Duty is past that point where they can justify releasing a new game as a stand-alone product an more.

With MW3, they should have turned it into a sub-service and just pump out the map packs and gear. Call it CoD: Ultimate or something stupid like that, so everyone knows that is the last one for a while. The only reason they should be able to justify bringing out an entirely new game is if the game engine is considerably improved (they could do that by using the original CoD: 2 engine) or re-worked to include a fair amount of new features that would warrant it. MW:3 had some of these things, but I'd say it was a move to justify calling it a new product.

"You know what, MW: 2 was fun, but I want robots and random gizmos in the next game, coz guns are getting boring. At the price of a new retail game, of course" - No CoD player, ever.

Slapping on a new single player campaign and slightly changing the hud/weapons/skins/killstreaks each time just doesn't cut it.

Same here I like to see WWII theme back but I like to see more Pacific & Asia, Meditarean and Middle East theatre.

I'm happy if they continue releasing yearly offerings as long as they are different games from the predecessor (two years before, as BLOPS 2 is the successor to BLOPS 1).

Major changes on Treyarch's behalf this year that we probably won't see in another MW game, which we know will stick to the killstreak/pointstreak direction.

I honestly don't care anymore. MW3 finally killed it for me, it was the epitome of recycling. All my attention's going to Treyarch now since they're actually putting effort into spicing things up; both gameplay and UI.

Yeah same, but MW3 I still get enjoyment out of, but I'm considerably more excited for BLOPS2 than I was for MW3.

I am kind of hoping Neversoft does the next MW. We might see a return to COD4 simplicity (don't be surprised if it ends up that way eventually).

I doubt it. They have a mindset of bigger meaning better which isn't always true since I almost have no ****ing idea what's going on until I get sniped because I just stood there for 2 seconds. And it doesn't help that you have several teams working on a portion of one game. That gives me an impression that a game won't run in sync - even though it's been broken since MW2.

I have exactly the same feeling. It would be cool to go back to WWII. But from a different angle.
