Customer Service - when does it annoy you?

Okay, so I love good customer service. If an employee comes up and asks if I need any assistance with anything, or when I go to them and ask and they give me a detailed explanation, I'm a happy shopper! But when I get asked "can I help you there?" by 6 people, it gets a little frustrating.

Today I went to JB HiFi(Browns Plains if anyone is wondering) to just have a look around as I needed to kill some time. I walked in, got greeted by the man that checks purchases on the way out, then I was asked if I needed any help by a guy who just happened to be standing there, to which I replied "no thanks, just looking for the moment"(replied the same to each person that asked that question, by the way). Then I was looking at the iPad 2 when another guy came up and asked if we(mum and I) needed help, we said no, and kept looking at the iPad 2. This same guy went on to ask us how our day has been, what we have planned for the weekend, then where we worked(mum replied with that she is working on the weekend). Then we ditched him to only be stopped by another guy asking if we needed anything.

To cut the story short, we were stopped 6 times to see if we needed assistance within a 10 minute time length of being in the store. After that, we had to get out in fear another 6 people were going to ask us.

So has anyone had anything happen to them? Eager sales people following you around? Asking you questions? Because I have! [Rage]

P.S. I put the thread on all channels as all channels could deal with something like this. If a mod of the channel does not want it on their channel, feel free to remove.
Clothes shopping it bothers me because they usually don't care and are trying to sell more. With them once is too much. :P

Somewhere like JB though they're usually trying to be helpful so I don't mind. If you'd wanted to buy an iPad I'm sure that they'd have to run off and grab one correct? The JB's I go to are too busy for those guys to watch each other anyway to see if someones helping you.

I'm not seeing any other advantages. :P
Because there isn't any [Shifty]
Like most of you said, when I'm after a particular item, I go in, grab it, and then get out. Fast as I can.

But if I want to just look, like today, I want to just look without being interrupted.
I get that they have to ask me, but I still don't like it. I'm trying to perfect the "If you talk to me I'll be less likely to buy stuff" face. It's sorta working.
Just put your headphones in and have them blasting loud enough so that the sound leaks.

No your mum! :P
You know why they talk to you?

Because 90% of people who walk into the store have no dam idea what they are on about. And they ARE a help to these people. However when i worked in retail, we took note of and if we weren't sure, sometimes asked fellow employees if someone had been served.

Getting asked 6 times is poor form by the floor staff, but if you get asked 'do you have any questions mate or are you just taking a look around?' 2 or maybe 3 times MAX then i think it's acceptable

I am shocked, you got service at JB, that's different

It peeves me off big time that when I don't need help they keep asking, when I do want it, no one is around.
I was in KFC the other night, and when I was walking out I was absoultly gob smacked at the unreal customer service I got.

And im with Chucky, You got servce at JB, usually I have to beg at least 6 people to help me,

They might have been attracted to you!
I'd rather stored ask customers if they need help too many times than not at all - at the very least, it care's they care somewhat about customer satisfaction.
I went to JB and ended up being harrassed by 4 different clerks. @_@
dont u look at studies australian customer service is horrible by world standards. we either get asked to much or not at all. and by not at all i mean not being able to find anyone at all in the shop. or u get evil looks like ur to poor to be in my shop!!!!
I went to Myers the other day.

This shirt didn't have a price tag.

I asked some lady and she just fobbed me off like I was a piece of dirt.

So I followed her and I started saying rather loudly to my friend:

"So I wanna buy 800 dollars worth of clothes here."

Shoulda seen her face. *_*

She then served me, so I asked her to go find a tag for the shirt, and while she was gone, I left. *_*
i hate when they are on you as soon as you get in the door, you think give me a chance to bloody look ffs

one day in harvey norman this guy asked if i was ok, i said i am fine, he then asked atomic10 same thing while we were next to each other, same reply, i then looked at computers and called atomic10 over and the guy started coming over, so i said in a nice abrupt way "not you" god that felt good.

Some people can be so annoying in shops

i saw that report on aca, it is pathetic how bad it is. Wont get that where i work that's for sure

If I need help, I'll ask for it. If I need a price for something, I'm not going to wait until someone comes over, I'll go find someone to ask.

that is brilliant, she got what she deserved the stupid cow
It might be annoying to you, to be asked by different people but you should try to understand that because they're different people they won't know who's been served or not.

The thing they're doing wrong isn't asking if you need assistance, but that they're not asking "have you been served?".

I just finished a retail course as well, (someone else mentioned doing one) and you quickly learn that by interacting with customers it deters shoplifting. Shoplifters don't want to be noticed, if they know they've been seen then it becomes harder to do.

The thing is though, if you're lingering around like you were Matteh, sales assistants are taught that you're either an undecided or partially undecided customer, and if that's the case they DO want to help you.

It's just up to the sales assistants to recognise whether you're a person who wants assistance or not. You can't just walk up to anyone thinking they need assistance, they should be taught that if a person wants a help they usually scope out the store as if they're looking for someone.
HEHE i use to work at jbhifi Browns Plains it was a hell hole lol
I hit on people who try to help me, male or female.

They go and tell the people they work with, everyone stays away.
I think it really depends on who is working that day since some days I can go to the same shops and not get served at all and some days I keep getting asked.
If you kids think customer service is intrusive here, try shopping in the Philippines. First they ask if you need help, and you say that you don't. But they stick around and actively try to pick clothes and stuff FOR you. "This would look really good on you, sir!" "Have you seen this one?" "We have that in different colors too!"
When you have a problem with a product you do everything the maker of the product tells you to do on their website or whatever, but to no avail, and so you submit a report ticket telling them that you've done everything they've listed on their website, and all they do is link you back to the page on their website with the instructions you just followed.
Stupid Ubisoft.... -_-
