Is it just me, or does the whole gaming industry feel boring right now?

There's no big news, nothing really to get excited about. It's all much of the same.

It felt like new consoles were coming, but now they could be 3 years+ away.

But this isn't a discussion about the future. It's about the now. What do you think about games and the whole industry right now?

Is it just....boring?

I'll be playing KH 3D for like 5 hours a day when it comes out. Then I'll finish it and not play anything again.

I realised, in the current Steam Sale, that I'm out of touch. I haven't heard of about 99% of the games going on sale.

But bored? Nah... Hard to be bored of games in general when there are countless genres to experiment with.

I'm not bored, I just lost interest. I remember being younger and couldn't wait for a game to come out when it was first announced. Now I hear about it and I go somewhat meh because I'll know I'll just spend 2 weeks playing it and never hear from it again. The only appeal that gets me going is the multiplayer aspect - preferably co-op.

Not bored just cbf or be bothered anymore.. i play the occasional 3ds or iphone games. i've hardly touched consoles for months now even though i have bought games for them and i tell myself that im going to play them but i cbf, i have a massive massive pile of shame.. i guess im more interested whats out there then playing games, priorities shift when you get older etc etc to do, lesbihonest theres more things to do out there.... im not bored of games in general, because il always be a gamer... but yes i am bored of all the games i have, and i need new games. i have pretty much every mainstream game (cod, skyrim, mass effect, etc etc). and some other fighters and all the sports ones too...

but i just have nothing INTERESTING to play... i need something with that OOMPH factor if ya know wat i mean.

im waiting for some games to be released, like resident evil 6, etc. but most looking forward to splinter cell blacklist *_*

Nothing new or interesting. Yet, there seem to be just as many games being released. :S

Yes and no. 2011 was a massive year to be a gamer and you'd think this question would be insane considering the last year of games released. 2009 and 2010 had very few releases which sparked my interest during first year uni, and I only ever got into Halo: Reach and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Then 2011 came, and though it was amazing, I found I burned myself out from all the sequels of RPGs and multiplayer shooters which flooded the market. However, Dark Souls and The Witcher 2 proved to be the true standouts which got me back into serious gaming and made me stop fussing about the next-generation.

I still get that "bored of games and everything" mood occasionally, such as after coming back from a big night out or during uni studies. But now that I've expanded my gaming collection with a PS3, I've been catching up on great single-player exclusives and have rarely felt bored... just overwhelmed with choice!

I'm not bored of games but I'm sick of the stockpile of games I currently have but that's more so due to the sickening indie/steam sales that keep tempting me.

I have yet to knuckle down on those "SUMMER" + "WINTER" Sales by steam and Greenman respectively for those very reasons because I didn't spend money just so it can just sit there and taunt me.

I doubt I'm bored of games if I keep coming here and discussing them and I still enjoy turning on my PS3 for a bash on one of the games especially some of the older titles which enough time has past between plays.

I've been bored silly of gaming for a couple of years now, i get excited about new titles coming but when they hit i'm like 'meh'.
Too many fps and rpgs and i never thought i would ever say that as they use to be two of my favoured genres.
Xbox bores me, got tired of earning pointless achievements. PS3, much the same and PC gaming died for me back in 2004 i mean i still update my rig and explore new titles but PC gaming is nothing like it use to be and indie gaming just doesn't interest me most of the titles are trash imo.

what do you think needs to be done inspire you to pick up that mouse/keyboard or game pad?

I think the problem with pc gaming is that a lot of the major titles are geared towards consoles and as such you're giving a half arse port when it use to be the other way around. The same can be said about the modding community. It use to be that when a big title hit, people would clamour around fan sites to get the latest editions to the modding tools and fan made mods. That to a point still happens, look at day z.

I agree that the market is saturated with FPS. not sure about rpg's as I feel there's enough differentiation between the old school and the new school type games - there's also hybrids of that type of genre which keeps it interesting..

I don't care much for achievements either especially when they require me to complete some of them online. yeahhhh, nar.

I don't mind indie games I just think the attitude some of these creators put me off whether they're talking trash about a console and platform, a publisher, physical media, whatever.

I think the problem is that video games aren't just games anymore. It's srs bzns.

Take something too seriously and it becomes un-fun.

Shooters are trying to be artsy, simulators are crossing the silicon valley and action games are trying to 'make the player think about their actions'. All while charging an arm and a leg for what, at times, is incomplete, buggy or just plain bad. WTF?

No wonder the casual and indie game market is flourishing.

Yeah. Its about not taking the game too seriously. One of the most fun moments I have had gaming was when me and my friend played through all of Rayman Origins. What a great game. Unlike anything I have ever played! All we did was laugh and laugh the whole way through. That for me is what gaming is all about! :D

Then there's the big names that are changing up their new systems for the next generation, what with Nintendo stepping it up with the WiiU. I agree that gaming doesn't really feel like gaming. There's way too many add-ons for what used to be simple and fun.

I must admit at the moment i am pretty bored as well. All the online shooters are just same after same and for me i find it very boring to repeat things over and over again. When i seen Spec ops the line review i thought id give it a go so i downloaded the demo, all i kept thinking while i walked through the demo without dieing was how boring is this game. Then actually how bad has the whole year been?
I will tell you for me it has been shit house.

We need new ideas and new directions.
