First of all, I hope everybody in Towoomba is safe and hasn't lost any loved ones in the flash flooding.

Anyone else in Queensland feeling the major flooding going on? I live in Gympie QLD and if any of you know where that is you'll know we're having lots of fun ^_^ The Mary river Hit 19 meters and is only just starting to fall... with some more heavy rain forecast...

Thanks to Gympie the supply line to pretty much all of northen QLD is cut off.

happens every now and then

Yes it does happen a couple of times, it hit a country in SE Asia a couple of years back while i was there and i remember it was on boxing day....It never got reported in the news but heaps of people died, like hundreds died and about 100++K people were at the evacuation centres....La Nina is evil....

Myself and a couple of mates went to volunteer for the clean up today but we were turned away because they had too many people already. It's an amazing thing to see so many people just joining in, helping out and being so selfless. Go Queenslanders!!

Went volunteering today at Chelmer and Indooroopilly...They had heaps of people but me, the wife and a couple of mates just jumped in to help where we could, lots of people turned us down though as they already had soo many people already helping....I'm also thinking they probably turned people down cause lots of people got looted while being "HELPED"....

I have a question though. For those that live in QLD and those areas affected (or are familiar with them), do floods often occur? Obviously not to this extent, but are they a typical occurance?

Seeing as you asked...

Wivenhoe Dam was built after the '74 floods. Seeing as this wasn't there then, the water levels in '74 were higher in Brisbane but this current flood had a whole lot more rain fall. Areas around Brisbane were affected more.

Quit complaining about how 9 (or 7 or 10, for that matter) are doing shit reporting. If you want to learn something, watch the ABC or ABC News 24. ;)
