Don't expect a significant number of new characters in the next Super Smash Bros. games for Wii U and 3DS. That's the message from creator Masahiro Sakurai, who is more focused on quality than quantity, and believes the series can't feasibly expand with many more characters.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl had a massive 36 characters, up from 25 on the GameCube and just 12 in the Nintendo 64 original that nobody thought would sell.
Just don't expect that number to continue growing on the Wii U, reports CVG.
Sakurai insists that Smash Bros. has reached its limits in terms of the sheer number of characters, and needs a change of direction to progress.
One such innovation is the connection between the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game, which looms as a major feature.
Perhaps 40 characters would be a nice round number?
