Kirby Super Star Ultra - 9 / 10

Kirby Super Star Ultra GAMEPLAY: 9.0

Kirby has really outdone himself with this one: not only does this game include all seven of the original games(Spring Breeze,Dyna Blade, Gourmet Race, The Great Cave Offense, Revenge of Metanight, MilkyWay Wishes, and, of course, th Arena), but now it includes four new modes to play with: Revenge of the King, Metaknightmare Ultra, and two totally new arena modes.

Spring Breeze is basically the beginners game. It introduces all of the basic concepts that the game has in store in four easy stages, and anyone can play through it without much difficulty.

Dyna Blade is a tad more challenging then Spring Breeze, but is still easy as far as they go. It has one more stage than the game before it, and the last boss can be a bit of a challenge, but other than that it's fairly easy to beat.

Gourmet Race is more of a sub-game than anything else. You basically challenge King DeDeDe to a friendly eating race to see who can eat the most and get to the goal first. The grand prix in some ways is easier to beat than Spring Breeze, but the time attack mode will provide more of a challenge.

Things get kicked up a knotch in the Great Cave Offense. You travel through the many parts of the underground attempting to collect all 60 treasures and escape the trecherous maze. This one'll take a few tries before everything is collected.

Revenge of Metaknight is no walk in the park either. You are timed throughout your travels while trying to destroy Metaknight's ship, the Halberd. There are also many hazords and enimies along the way, and after Metaknight's been tossed aside, you still have to escape before time runs out. It's fun, but it can be challenging.

MilkyWay Wishes is definately the most in-depth of the original games. You visit many planets, trying to reach Nova, the granter of wishes, in order to stop the sun and the moon from fighting. However, what you don't know is that the anatognist, Marx (also the main villan for KSSU), has his own plans to rule the galaxy. However, in this game you can't swallow enimies and gain their abilities: instead you must find all 19 ability statues throughout the planets, where once you collect them, you can use them again and again. This mode gives an interestin twist to the kirby series in a whole.

Revenge of the King is a darker take on Spring Breeze. You basically go through the same levels, but the surroundings and enimies have....changed. It also shows you how much of a rivalry is between kirby and King DeDeDe (especially as the game draws to a close).

Metaknightmare Ultra is its own game in a way. You play through all of the original games (excluding Gourmet Race and the Arena) as, as the name implies, metaknight. This one is definately the most in-depth and elaborate game in the entire roster.

As for the new arenas, they have made drastic changes for the original. In Helper to a Hero (the 1st of the two), you choose out of twenty helpers (standing for twenty ablities) and fight through 13 bosses from the other games with a special fight in the end. And, last but not least, is the TRUE Arena. Although you fight only 10 foes in this mode, they are truely the toughest. The bosses here are from the two newer games (Revenge of the King and Metaknightmare Ultra), and an added challange is the fact that there are no maximum tomatoes to help you (although there is some type of restoreation)!

On a final note, there are the subgames. There are three new sub-games: Kirby Card Swipe (fast-paced card swiping game), Kirby on the Draw (basic can-shooter game), and Snack Tracks (an all you can eat game). There are also the two original sub-games, Megaton punch and Samurai Kirby.

GRAPHICS: 7.5

Artistic graphics with cutsie design make for a charming looking game, but it may turn off some gamers due to its childlike look.

SOUND: 8.0

Although there are some songs that might be forgotten, most of them are quite good. The best, in my opinion, though, would have to be after MilkyWay Wishes is completed in the newer games.

PLAYABILITY: 8.5

This is a solid platformer, and who wouldn't like the fact that you can eat your foes and steal their powers.

OVER-ALL: 9.0

Gameplay: 9.0
Graphics: 7.5
Sound: 8.0
Playability: 8.5

Over-all, this is a game that is really worth getting. It has all of the old things that made the SNES version awesome, and also brings new challenges that kirby fans will drool all over. So, if you haven't gotten this game yet, do it now. NOW!!!!!!

Nice review, Lugia. My only complaint is that you didn't use any images, other than that it's a solid review.
Very nice!
